Sheema: Good morning and welcome to The Rumpus Daily. I'm Sheema Sharti.
Neil: And I'm Neil Matthews. Every weekday we bring you the signals from the world's prediction markets. Today is Wednesday, November fourth.
Sheema: Two stories this morning. First, Polymarket traders now put ninety per cent on Republicans losing all seven Senate races in one Polymarket contract: Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Ohio and Texas. That price stood at twenty-six per cent one week ago. And second, petrol prices: Kalshi's contract on the national average finishing above four dollars and two cents recovered sharply after a one-day fall, but the market still looks too cautious about the cushion.
Neil: The Senate first.
Traders now expect Republicans to lose all seven mapped Senate races
Sheema: Traders now expect Republicans to lose all seven mapped Senate races. The Polymarket contract covers Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, and Texas. This is a build-your-map event: each outcome names the exact set of states Republicans win. This one names none. It sits at ninety per cent. Americans voted yesterday.
Neil: The single-state contracts point the same way. A Republican win in Michigan trades at two per cent on Polymarket and one per cent on Kalshi. Kalshi prices a Republican win in Iowa at one per cent and Ohio at zero. What's left?
Sheema: Alaska. The map where Republicans hold Alaska alone sits at eleven per cent on Polymarket. Every other map sits at zero.
Neil: The New York Times listed Alaska among its eleven races to watch on election day. That's the basis for eleven per cent. Is your call really that Alaska goes Democratic too?
Sheema: The Times watch-list explains why some doubt remains. But every linked contract moved against Republicans overnight: the Iowa map sits at zero, Texas Democrats trade at a hundred per cent, Michigan at ninety-seven or ninety-eight on both venues. When every surrounding contract breaks one way, eleven per cent on an Alaska Republican hold is too much.
Neil: The contract needs all seven to go Democratic, so one Republican win anywhere sinks it.
Sheema: Correct. A declared Republican winner in any of the seven before the end of November proves the call wrong.
Traders swing back to petrol above $4.02 after a one-day scare
Neil: Petrol prices now. The Kalshi contract asks whether AAA's national average price for regular petrol, the figure AAA publishes daily from thousands of stations, will finish above four dollars and two cents on the ninth of November. It stood at ninety-three per cent on the second, fell to fifty-eight per cent on the third, then recovered eighteen points to seventy-six per cent today.
Sheema: The ladder of thresholds shows where traders expect the average to land. They put an even chance on four dollars and four cents, so the likeliest finish is between four dollars two and four dollars six, with the midpoint two cents above the line.
Neil: The other side's best case is the week's direction. The contract opened at ninety-three and has not recovered there. A continued slide carries the average through the line by Monday.
Sheema: The fall to fifty-eight per cent reversed within a single day. That is a sharp recovery, and the ladder centres near four dollars and four cents. A national figure drawn from thousands of stations drifts a cent at a time, so two cents of cushion in five days is wider than seventy-six per cent allows. Our call: above four dollars and two cents on Monday, and seventy-six per cent is too low.
