Barringer gains fast, but NC-13 still favours the Republican

The NC-13 Democrat has climbed 22 points in a week, but the Republican sibling still sits at 58%.

In one line: Republicans keep NC-13 on 3 November, and Barringer's 42% after a 22-point weekly climb overstates a Democratic win.

Traders have lifted the Democrat's chance in North Carolina's 13th district sharply this week. Paul Barringer's contract on Polymarket rose from 21% on 25 Oct to 43% on 1 Nov, up 22 points over the seven days, and gained 10.5pp in the last 24 hours alone.

The rest of the event holds the other side. The Republican contract in the same race sits at 58%. On Kalshi the same question, a Democratic win in NC-13, trades at 41%. Two independent books within a point of each other make the move harder to dismiss as one venue's noise.

The path is less tidy than the weekly figure. The seven-day high of 45% and the low of 21% both fall on 25 Oct. The price now sits 2 points below that high. The match with Kalshi is the strongest sign that two independent pools of money, together pricing Barringer below 43%, agree the seat is competitive.

If the resolution sources call NC-13 for Barringer after polls close on 3 Nov, this call is wrong: the Republican holds the seat, and Barringer's 42% overstates his chance. The best case against this call is the cross-venue match: if two separate pools of money both moved to the low 40s, they may be pricing a real swing, and a Barringer win would prove them right.
