Traders cut bitcoin's chance of an $80,000 finish on 30 Oct
Traders cut the odds of bitcoin finishing 30 Oct above $80,000 from 66% to 50% in seven days.
In one line: Bitcoin's index settles under $80,000 at 5pm EDT on 30 Oct. At 50%, the contract prices an even chance on a finish the 26 Oct contracts put below $80,000.
Traders on Kalshi have cut the chance that bitcoin ends 30 Oct at $80,000 or above from 66% on 23 Oct to 50% today, a fall of 16 percentage points over the seven days. Most of it came in the last 24 hours, when the contract lost 13.0pp. It touched a seven-day low of 46% on 26 Oct and has since recovered 4 points.
The rest of the event shows how traders read the outcome. Each contract pays if CF Benchmarks' bitcoin index averages above its strike in the sixty seconds before 5pm EDT on 30 Oct. The contract IDs carry each strike; rounded, the $75,500 line trades at 90%, $78,000 at 75%, $79,500 at 59%, $80,500 at 43%, $81,000 at 37% and $85,000 at 6%. The middle of that forecast sits on $80,000 itself. Contracts on the same index that settle on 26 Oct trade at 98% above $79,500 and 53% above $79,900, which puts the near-term price just under the line.
Read together, the two ladders say the week's slide has dragged bitcoin's expected finish from above $80,000 to the line itself. The 30 Oct contract at 50% assumes the coin regains the small gap the 26 Oct contracts leave below $80,000. That is a gap of roughly $100 over four days, but the week has run the other way.
The call: bitcoin's index finishes below $80,000 at 5pm EDT on 30 Oct, and the 50% price is too high. The other side has a fair case: four days is a long time for bitcoin, the gap to the strike is about $100, and the 4-point bounce from 46% shows buyers came back; a steady climb above $80,500 would make it right. The call is wrong if the index's average in the sixty seconds before 5pm EDT on 30 Oct is above $79,999.99.
