Oil traders retreat from a $110 October

The $110 contract gave back its Friday spike as Kalshi traders put WTI near $101

In one line: WTI crude ends October without touching $110. The 16% price is too generous, and a Pyth one-minute high at $110 before month end would prove it wrong.

Traders have cut the odds that WTI crude touches $110 in October to 16%, down 13.5 points in the last 24 hours. The contract climbed from a 7-day low of 9% on 20 Oct to a high of 38% on 23 Oct, then fell 22 points. It now sits where it stood on 19 Oct. The spike matched the tape. USO, the fund that tracks front-month oil futures, rose 2.02% on Friday 23 Oct.

The rest of the October ladder prices a rally that has run out of steam. A touch of $105 stands at 46%, $115 at 3%, $120 at 2% and $130 at 1%. On Kalshi, which prices where WTI settles each day, traders put 70% on a settlement above $99.99 on 26 Oct, 52% above $100.99 and 23% above $102.49. That centres oil near $101.

The contract pays Yes if any one-minute Pyth candle for the active month of ICE Futures Europe WTI prints a high at or above $110 during an October session. That needs oil some $9 above where Kalshi traders place it, with 6 days left. Friday's jump shows oil can gain several dollars in a session, which keeps this contract off the floor. But traders give even $105 slightly worse than even odds, and the fall from 46% at $105 to 16% at $110 shows they think Friday's push is spent.

WTI will not touch $110 before October trading ends, and 16% overstates the chance. The best case against is that a fresh shock repeats the run between 20 and 23 Oct, when this contract went from 9% to 38%. A Pyth one-minute high at or above $110 on the ICE active month before the last October session closes would prove the call wrong. Oil held near $100 rather than $110 caps what holders of USO gain from this month's rally.
