Traders trim Republican odds in TX-09 but still favour Mealer

The Republican contract fell 8 points in a day, yet still prices Alex Mealer as the clear favourite

In one line: Alex Mealer, the Republican, wins TX-09 and is sworn in for the 2027 term; the sharp one-day fall leaves the price too low.

Traders on Kalshi cut the chance that a Republican wins Texas's 9th congressional district from 85% on 18 Oct to 76% on 25 Oct. Most of that came at once: the venue reports a fall of 8.0 points in the last 24 hours.

The event has two contracts. The Democratic contract stands at 24%, the mirror of the Republican price. The Republican contract closed the week at its seven-day low.

The move is large for one day, but it changes the race less than its speed suggests. A seat priced at 85% that falls to 76% has moved from near-safe to probable, not to a toss-up. Republicans remain favourites by more than three to one.

The call: Alex Mealer, the Republican, wins TX-09 and is sworn in for the 2027 term, and 76% is a price the week's selling has pushed too low. The case against is that a fall of 8 points in a single day may signal further selling, in which case the Democratic contract climbs from 24%. The call is wrong if the Democrat wins the November count, or if the Republican contract trades below 50% before the vote.
