Bass edges ahead in the Los Angeles mayor's race

Traders give Karen Bass a narrow lead over Nithya Raman after an eight-point climb over the week.

In one line: Karen Bass beats Nithya Raman for Los Angeles mayor, with Kalshi at 55% and Polymarket at 53% both putting her narrowly ahead.

Karen Bass now leads the Kalshi contract on who will win the Los Angeles mayoral election, which pays if she wins the 2026 race. Her price ran from 44% on 14 Oct to 52% on 21 Oct, a gain of 8 points over the seven days. It now trades at 55%, up 6.0 points in the last 24 hours by the venue's own figure.

The event holds two contracts. Nithya Raman's trades at 45%, so the Kalshi book splits the race 55 to 45 in Bass's favour. Polymarket asks the same question and gives nearly the same answer, with Bass at 53% and Raman at 46%.

The eight-point climb over seven days, not the single six-point day, is the stronger signal. The low came on 14 Oct and the high on 21 Oct, and the Polymarket book now prices the race almost exactly as Kalshi does. Two venues give nearly the same number, which reduces the chance that one large bet on a thin book drove the move. The lead is still narrow, and at 55% Raman keeps better than two chances in five.

Bass probably wins the 2026 Los Angeles mayoral election, and after the week's climb 55% looks more likely too low than too high. She sat at 44% a week ago and now leads on both venues, in a race where she has gained nine points from the week's low. Raman, at 45%, needs the eight-point move of the past week to unwind. A fall in Bass's Kalshi price below its 14 Oct low of 43%, or a Raman win by the time the contract resolves on 2 June 2027, would prove this call wrong.
