Shen Bo-yang closes on Chiang Wan-an in Taipei
Kalshi traders lift Shen to 49% from a 7 October low of 25%; Polymarket still prices him at 34%.
In one line: Chiang Wan-an keeps Taipei's mayoralty in the 2026 vote, and Kalshi's 49% for Shen Bo-yang overstates a challenger Polymarket rates at 34%.
Kalshi traders have lifted Shen Bo-yang's chance of winning the 2026 Taipei mayoral election to 49%. The contract stood at 35% on 5 October and touched a weekly low of 25% on 7 October. It has since gained 24 points, 14 over the full week, with 11.0 of them in the last 24 hours by the venue's own figure.
The rest of the Kalshi event still makes Chiang Wan-an, the incumbent, the favourite at 61%. Four other candidates sit at 1% each. Shen and Chiang alone sum to 110%, more than the certainty that one person wins. Polymarket asks the same question and prices Shen at 34% and Chiang at 67%.
The two books disagree, and the arithmetic favours Polymarket. Shen's 49% sits beside a Chiang price of 61% on the same venue, so the Kalshi event promises more than one winner can pay. A real shift in the race would show in both candidates' contracts and on both venues, and so far it shows in one contract on one venue. Polymarket's traders still make Chiang the clear favourite, and their two leading contracts sum to 101%, close to the 100% a single winner allows.
The likelier outcome is a Chiang win in the 2026 vote; Kalshi's 49% for Shen overstates his chances. The best case for Shen is that Kalshi traders have seen a shift Polymarket has yet to price. The call fails if Shen wins the 2026 count, and the first sign would be Polymarket's Shen contract trading above 45% by 31 October.
