Traders lift Republican odds in the Texas Senate race
Kalshi's Republican contract rose 3 points in a week to 40%, but Democrats still lead at 60%.
In one line: A Democrat wins the Texas Senate seat in the 2026 vote, and Kalshi's 40% on a Republican win gives the week's rebound too much credit.
Kalshi's contract on a Republican winning the Texas Senate race stands at 40% on 11 Oct, the top of its seven-day range. It opened the week at 37% on 4 Oct and fell to 33% the next day. Since then traders have lifted it 7 points from that low, which leaves it up 3 points over the 7 days and up 2 points in the last 24 hours.
The contract pays if a Republican is sworn in as a senator for Texas for the term beginning in 2027. Its partner in the same event, on a Democratic win, trades at 60%. Polymarket asks the same question and prices Republicans at 38% and Democrats at 63%. Two independent books both make the Democrat the favourite, and they sit within a few points of each other.
The week's rally is mostly a recovery. Most of the climb undoes the fall to 33% on 5 Oct, and the Republican side ends the week where it began, short of even money on both venues. A bounce inside one week, with the Democratic side still above 60% on each venue, is thin evidence that the race has turned. The price shows traders giving the Republican two chances in five, and nothing in the week's path argues for more.
The Democrat wins the seat, and the Republican side at 40% on Kalshi is too high. The best case against this is the direction of travel: money has moved towards the Republican since 5 Oct, and if both venues carry the Republican contract above 50% before the vote, the market was right to move and this call is wrong. The call also fails if the 2026 count names a Republican winner. The result decides which party holds a Texas Senate seat for the term beginning in 2027.
