Bitcoin holds above 84,000 dollars

Traders put 79% odds on bitcoin staying above $84,000 tomorrow.

In one line: The one in five chance of a drop below $84,000 within a day is too high given the ladder.

Traders put the odds of bitcoin closing above $84,000 at noon ET tomorrow at 79%, up 15.2 points in the last 24 hours on Polymarket. The contract ran from a 7-day low of 34% on 28 Sep to a high of 98% on 2 Oct, and has slipped 19 points from that high. Over the seven days it is up 28 points, from 51% on 26 Sep. No reporting was supplied for this story, so the price path is the record.

The rest of the event fills in the shape of the book. The $82,000 contract prices 99% and the $86,000 contract 3%. That is a market that expects a close barely above $84,000 and nothing more. On the other venue, Kalshi has the same question at 78% yes, against Polymarket's 82%, a 4 point gap on the same rule and the same source. Two independent books within four points of each other is a stronger reading than either alone, and the gap is too small to trade after fees.

The rally has stalled near the top. The $88,000 contract sits at 1% and the $90,000 at 0%, so the market rules out a push higher tomorrow. A contract for the day after, October 4, prices $84,000 at 68%, seven points below tomorrow's, which is the market saying the level gets shakier the longer it has to hold. The Kalshi October 2 strikes agree: $84,000 for today is at 69% and the higher $84,499.99 strike at 44%, a wide spread for a few hundred dollars.

I think 79% underrates the downside. One day of holding above a level that the ladder says is barely reached is thinner than four in five, and the 19 point fade from the high shows how fast this book moves.

Bitcoin closes above $84,000 on the Binance noon ET candle tomorrow, so the 79% price still underrates the hold, and the $86,000 contract at 3% should be nearer 8% on the same view. If the $82,000 contract trades below 90% before noon ET tomorrow, the stall has turned into a fall and this call is wrong.
